### Chord Identifier

**Chord Identifier 1.0.0  (WINDOWS & MAC ) (coming to Linux soon)**

**ALL FUTURE UPDATES WILL BE FREE!!!**

**Chord Identifier is a visually aesthetic and musically accurate music theory companion, designed with visual learners in mind that listens to your real-time MIDI performance and uses a _harmonic gravity_ engine to instantly identify and explain complex harmonies, within their correct musical context.**

**In simple words, at its core, Chord Identifier, as the name suggests, is a chord identification tool, you play a stack of notes, and it tells you what chord you are playing, while being context aware of what scale and key you are in.**

**But it's much more than just a simple Chord Identification tool. It has features that will make your music learning and songwriting journey easier and faster.**

**So let's go deeper and take a look at all the features CHORD IDENTIFIER has to offer:**

**LAYOUTS**

**On the right side of the dot, you will see a SIZE section, where you can change the number of keys you want to see, if you are on a different sized midi keyboard, this helps. You have 25 key midi keyboards, 49, 61 and 88.**

**To see a standard vertical chord diagram, click on the rotate button in the top right corner of the guitar layout.**

**AUDIO AND MIDI RECORDER**

**After a slight middle gap, you can see the Hollow Circle. That is a MIDI and Audio Recorder Combined. When you click that, recording starts, and whatever you play, gets recorded as WAV audio and the MIDI of what you recorded. So you can Export it in your favorite DAW, do whatever you want with it.**

**Then we have the Transpose options, you can transpose whatever you are playing - UP  or  DOWN by semitones or octaves.**

**Then we have the Bell icon, which is for the Metronome. You left click it once to start the Metronome, and it will start moving like a pendulum, synced with metronome, not only that but it will also light up orange, on the first.**

**And at the very end of the header, you have a master volume slider and a MIDI device indicator. If there is no midi connected, the indicator will be grey and say NO midi.**

**If you right click on the bell/metronome icon, you will greeted with a popup, where you can select the tempo (BPM), the metronome sound (3 sounds available), and the time signature.**

**SCALE MODE**

**One of the top features of the Chord Identifier is SCALE MODE. Where you can select your key and a scale, (more than 50+ scales available). After you select a key and a scale, the notes from that particular scale will highlight with a nice pastel green color.**

**And when you start playing, if you play any note that is not in the scale, it will be highlighted bright red indicating that; that note does not belong in the selected scale.**

**The significance of the scale mode extends beyond merely highlighting the notes in the scale. The key and the scale mode are crucial for establishing the musical CONTEXT of your performance. Every chord you play will be named according to the specific key you are using.**

**After playing 30 notes, without manually selecting the scale, the app will auto detect the scale based on your playing.**

**CHORD HISTORY**

**By clicking on the third icon (clock icon) in the title bar, you can access the CHORD HISTORY panel; where you can find your recently played chords and know more about them according to the context. This is a great way to know and learn more about chords.**

**CHORD SEARCH**

**When PC keyboard midi input is off, you can just type a chord name and search it in the Chord Display and see how it lays out on the piano. This is a great way to find out how to play any particular chord.**

**WATERFALL MIDI PLAYER**

**This is one of my favourite features of Chord identifier, the waterfall midi player. You can import any midi file in the midi player, it could be your favourite song, or even the midi traditional music player, using the header options in the bottom, you could record in the chord identifier itself. This is a great way to learn from other songs, and create your own songs. If you composed something, you can bring it here and play along, sing along.**

**You can also skip forward, just like a transpose the midi, or change the tempo of the midi. When you import the midi, the tempo will be auto set to the tempo of the midi.**

**MIDI History : Space to auto save and access your midi files.**

**NATIVE SYNTH**

**Our synthesizer is designed to be a “what you see is what you hear" engine. Instead of hiding math behind complex knobs, we show you exactly how your sound is being shaped in real-time.**

**2 Oscillators, 1 NOISE OSC**

**ADSR, Filter with LFO and resonance, Reverb and Delay XY pad, with decay and mix for reverb and time, feedback and pingpong options for delay.**

**Drive Pad, for bitcrush and saturation.**

**Oscilloscope and Spectogram.**

**STICKERS**

**Just like you can put stickers on your laptop or other musical equipment, you can add stickers on CHORD IDENTIFIER. Go to settings to import custom stickers/images in the sticker library.**

**Each window has separate sticker holders : meaning, the stickers you put on the main UI/chord display will stay there and won't appear anywhere else. Stickers in synth, will stay in synth. Same for other windows, like midi player and others.**

**QUIZ MODE**

**This is a fun little quiz game, where the app plays a random note or a chord, depending on the difficulty, and you have to guess that chord by hearing. You can repeat the sound, or play the middle C for reference. This is a great way to train your ear. Each round has 5 questions. Have fun!**

**Create Custom instruments, and import SFZ and SF2 files.**

**You can create your own instruments to use in CHORD IDENTIFIER, by using a single note, or multiple ones for better quality. You can also import Soundfonts, SF2 files and use them to make instruments.**

**Dark Mode**

**FILM GRAIN**

**SOME MORE INFO :**

**Chord Identifier supports sustain pedal, pitch wheel and modulation wheel.**

**Remember, if you go to settings, and create a new sampler instrument, you can bring in your own WAV files, even just one sample and create your own custom instrument. You can also import SFZ and SF2 files. You can click on manage to remove your instrument from the main UI selection.**

**Atmos module in the SYNTH : This pad controls the reverb and the delay. The aura represents the reverb mix and reverb decay. The ripples around the dot indicate the delay time and ping pong effect. By holding the right click and dragging up and down, you can control the decay of the sound. By holding Ctrl and left click dragging, you can control the feedback of the delay.**

**SETTINGS**

**Few more features, customization and quality of life settings:**

1. **Reverb aura colour : use custom colour for reverb aura in the synth.**
2. **UI zoom. The default is 125%. You can go up to 200%.**
3. **PC keyboard input : Use your typing keyboard as a midi input, just like Fl studio’s keyboard input.**

**Disclaimer**
**_CHORD IDENTIFIER_ is currently undergoing development. As such, users should anticipate and report any glitches or bugs to help with improvement.**
**The most challenging aspect of developing this application has been the chord detection and naming conventions. Chord nomenclature can be controversial, and for complex chords, there is no single universally accepted name; interpretation and context play a significant role. The application's core philosophy is to prioritize a “humane" naming approach. This means choosing chord names that are commonly used by most musicians, rather than generating overly complicated, mathematically accurate names that may hinder a musician's learning process, even if technically correct.**
**I am open to constructive criticism, future features ideas and general conversation about the app, improving the app and the idea, making it bigger more accessible on various platforms and other stuff.**
